Acid-base disorders.md · Obsidian note

In metabolic acidosis, expected respiratory compensation is calculated via Winter's formula: expected PaCO₂ = [formula]1.5 × HCO₃⁻ + 8 ± 2.

## Metabolic acidosis
- ==Low HCO₃⁻== with low pH
- Anion gap = Na⁺ − (Cl⁻ + HCO₃⁻); normal ≈ 8–12 mEq/L
- Normal-gap (hyperchloremic) causes: diarrhea, [[Renal tubular acidosis|RTA]]
- Respiratory compensation = hyperventilation. Winter's formula: expected PaCO₂ = 1.5 × HCO₃⁻ + 8 ± 2

## Respiratory acidosis
- High PaCO₂ from hypoventilation: COPD, opioid overdose, neuromuscular weakness
- Kidneys compensate over days by retaining HCO₃⁻
Acid-base disorders.md · excerpt

Cards 1–2Serum anion gap is calculated as , with a normal value of approximately mEq/L.Used to differentiate high-gap from normal-gap metabolic acidosis.

Cards 3–4Respiratory acidosis is driven by hypoventilation leading to PaCO₂, and is compensated over days by the kidneys HCO₃⁻.Common causes include COPD, opioid overdose, and neuromuscular weakness.

How to turn Obsidian notes into Anki cards

  1. Drop the .md files. In Obsidian, right-click a note → “Reveal in Finder” (“Show in system explorer” on Windows) to find the file, then drag one or several onto this page.
  2. Pick sections. Each note is split at its headings into sections of about 3,000 characters. One credit per section; untick the ones you don’t need.
  3. Review and download. Keep, fix or drop each card, then download one .apkg and open it in Anki, AnkiMobile or AnkiDroid.

Obsidian to Anki: the three usual routes

There are three common ways to get Obsidian notes into spaced repetition, and they suit different people.

Sync plugins that read your own markup

Plugins such as Obsidian_to_Anki look for cards you have marked up yourself — a special block, a question/answer pair or {{c1::cloze}} syntax inside the note — and send them to Anki through the AnkiConnect add-on. They are a good fit if you like writing every card by hand and want later edits in the note to reach the card. The cost is the markup: notes written for reading have to be rewritten as cards first, and Anki has to be open on a desktop while you sync.

Reviewing inside Obsidian

The Spaced Repetition plugin schedules reviews inside Obsidian itself. Nothing to export, but you also leave Anki behind: no AnkiMobile or AnkiDroid, no shared decks, no Anki add-ons, and no image occlusion.

Drafting the cards from the note

AnkiForge takes the note as it is. The cards are drafted for you, one fact each, and you keep the ones worth keeping before downloading a single .apkg that imports on any device. The trade-off is that this is an export, not a sync: changing the note later does not change cards already in Anki. Drop the edited note again and the new cards import next to the old ones; cards that come out word-for-word the same are not added twice.

FAQ

Can I drop a whole vault?

Drop the notes you want cards from — several .md files at once is fine. Each file shows its sections and you choose which ones to turn into cards, so you only pay for what you pick.

Does it read my existing {{c1::cloze}} or Q:: A syntax?

Not as ready-made cards yet. The text is sent as notes and new cloze cards are written from it, so existing markup is treated like any other sentence. If you already marked the blanks yourself, the free cloze deletion formatter turns them into a deck without AI.

Do I need Anki open, or AnkiConnect?

No. You download a normal .apkg file and open it whenever you like, on desktop or phone. Nothing talks to Anki in the background.

What happens to my files?

Your PDF, PowerPoint or notes file is opened in your browser. Only the text of the pages you choose is sent to make cards, and only the diagrams you ask us to scan are sent for label detection. We do not keep the text, the images or the cards; your work in progress is saved only in this browser.

How much does it cost?

New accounts get 30 free credits. After that, credit packs start at $4.99. One credit is one page or slide turned into cards, or one diagram scanned for labels. If a run fails, its credits are refunded automatically. Downloading is free.
