One page on the cardiac cycle, in comprehensive mode
Comprehensive mode goes through the page statement by statement. Each card blanks one stage, structure or relationship.
Card 1During , rising back-pressure forces the atrioventricular (AV) valves to close, preventing blood from entering or leaving the ventricles. This occurs at the start of ventricular systole prompted by sinoatrial node signals.
Card 2The stage following ejection where ventricular pressure falls significantly with all valves closed is known as .
Card 3Atrial systole overlaps with the late phase of to finalize ventricular filling.
Card 4On an electrocardiogram (ECG), electrical systole initiates atrial systole at the .

Cloze deletions that test one thing
- Comprehensive by default. Content review is about coverage, so this page starts in comprehensive mode — every distinct statement, classification and mechanism gets a card. Use contrast mode for look-alikes (SN1 vs SN2, sympathetic vs parasympathetic).
- Short blanks, with hints. Blanks are 1–6 words; when a blank could have several answers it gets a hint like “enzyme” or “unit”.
- Pathways and structures as occlusion. Drop a diagram of glycolysis or the nephron and every label is masked for you.
How to make MCAT cloze cards from a chapter
- Drop the chapter. A content-review book chapter as PDF, class slides, or your own Markdown notes. One credit per page or section.
- Comprehensive mode is preselected. Switch to contrast for chapters full of look-alikes. Occlude any pathway or structure diagram.
- Review and download. Cut what you already know cold, then download one .apkg per chapter or one for the whole section.
Cloze cards for MCAT content review
What flashcards are good for — and what they aren’t
The MCAT rewards two different things: knowing a large body of content, and reasoning through passages under time pressure. Cloze cards are for the first — terms, relationships, pathway steps, classifications, the values you are expected to know. Passage reasoning is built with practice passages and full-length exams, not flashcards, and CARS has almost no content to memorise. AnkiForge only makes flashcards from your material; it does not write practice questions.
By section
- Bio/Biochem. The best fit for cloze: enzymes and regulation, pathway steps, organ physiology. Comprehensive mode turns each statement into a card; pathway and organ diagrams work well as image occlusion.
- Chem/Phys. Relationships and definitions work as cards, and simple formulas survive as text with sub- and superscripts (PV = nRT). Worked problems and derivations don’t belong on a card — practise those as problems.
- Psych/Soc. A term-heavy section. Contrast mode helps with concepts that are easy to mix up, such as classical versus operant conditioning, by asking what tells the two apart.
Comprehensive or contrast?
Comprehensive mode aims for four to ten cards a page and leaves no distinct statement out — right for a first pass through a chapter. Contrast mode aims for two to six and asks only about differences and exceptions — right for chapters where your mistakes come from confusing similar things. Both cost one credit a page, so a chapter can be run in one mode and its trickiest pages again in the other.
Your own notes work too
If you summarise chapters in Obsidian, Notion or any Markdown editor, drop the .md file instead of the book PDF. Notes are split at their headings, and the cards follow your summary rather than the book’s wording.

FAQ
Does it write MCAT practice questions?
No. It makes cloze flashcards from your own material for memorising content; it does not generate passage-based practice questions. It is not affiliated with the AAMC.
Can it handle equations?
Cards are plain text with simple formatting (bold, italic, sub- and superscripts), so relationships like “PV = nRT” work; complex typeset formulas from a PDF may come out simplified.
Can I use a scanned review book?
Card generation needs selectable text, so a scanned page produces no cards. A scanned diagram can still be turned into an image-occlusion note with “Occlude”.
Can I edit the cards before downloading?
Yes. Every card is shown as it will read in Anki. Drop, restore or edit cards with the mouse or the keyboard (J/K to move, X to remove, E to edit, or check them one at a time). Cards with long answers or too much text are flagged.
How much does it cost?
New accounts get 30 free credits. After that, credit packs start at $4.99. One credit is one page or slide turned into cards, or one diagram scanned for labels. If a run fails, its credits are refunded automatically. Downloading is free.
